Mission

To become a center of excellence and chief advisor to Government on matters relating to economic management, as well as medium and long term socio-economic development plans.   The mission of the Planning Commission is to promote sustainable and equitable economic growth and improved welfare through proper management and guidance of the national economy.

Functions

  • Formulation and analysing of Population and Economic Policies.

  • Issuing guidelines for the management of the economy

  • Designing and carrying out studies and researches on various aspects of economic development.

  • Identification and undertaking development planning.

  • Coordination of development planning and issuing budget guidelines for utilisation of national resources.

  • Coordinating the implementation of the National Population Policy.

  • Coordinate the National Website.

  • Ensuring human resource development.

  • Issuing guidelines of  External Sector Transactions Undertaking Aid Programming.

  • Overseeing National Productivity Council.

  • Overseeing Agencies falling under the Ministry.

  • Issuing guidelines on privatisation process.

  • Establishing monitoring and evaluation system to monitor and evaluate the privatized enterprises.

  • Collection, processing, storage and dissemination of statistics.

  • Coordination and consultation with International Organisations (WB, UNDP, RDA, RCDC, MIGA, UCSID).

  • Identification and planning of strategic public investment.

  • Articulation of policies and strategies for sectoral development.

Agencies/Institutions

The President's Office Planning Commission is charged with the responsibility of foreseeing the functioning of the following institutions:
