The Tanzania National Website
Introduction:
In 1996 the President of the United Republic of Tanzania directed the Government to establish a National Website. In the year 2000 the President's Office, Planning and Privatization (POPP) was assigned to coordinate the setting-up and development of the National Website (TNW). The choice of the POPP was in line with its mandate of being overall adviser to Government on matters pertaining to socio-economic development and economic management.
The Tanzania National Website was launched
officially by the third phase President of United Republic of Tanzania H.E. Benjamin W.
Mkapa on 09.12.2001. (speech)
By developing the TNW, the government created a mechanism by which the information from authoritative sources in Tanzania is easily accessible. The TNW users are able to get a comprehensive overview of information available on other websites on Tanzania and quickly navigate the vast information resources available. As such the TNW is an umbrella website for all websites on Tanzania. The site is expected to provide information to a variety of information seekers and where necessary direct them to complete sources of information.
