The President of Tanzania Jakaya Mrisho Kikwete has received with pride news that the Secretary General of the United Nations Mr. Ban Ki- Moon has named Dr. Asha Rose Migiro of Tanzania to be the Deputy Secretary General of the United Nations.

Before this appointment Dr. Migiro was the Tanzania’s Minister for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.

President Jakaya Mrisho Kikwete says he is happy and proud that Tanzania has been given this opportunity to serve in the World’s Highest Body.

‘The foreign ministry is a very important portfolio to me, but this choice is also an honor to my country and I am very proud of Dr. Migiro”. He has remarked

The Secretary General made a personal phone call earlier to President Kikwete to inform him of this choice and the President agreed.

President Kikwete then called Dr.Migiro who is currently in Lesotho, to inform her of this important appointment to the United Nations.

President Kikwete has already released Dr. Migiro to take up her new post immediately
