Markering Places...

Marketing places are very important in any productive area. Mwanza like any other region in the country has different types of marketing places where people buy and sell (exchange) their products. The type of market depends upon type of products to be marketed, either locally or internationally.

Thus we have products from agriculture like cash crops e.g. cotton and food crops. From livestock sector we have cattle and from natural resources we have fish products, charcoal and other wood products.
In order for the people to buy and sell all the above-mentioned products, the region has markets almost all along the shores of Lake Victoria and its Islands. This is because almost all the fruits and fish products in this region originate from these areas. We also have livestock markets in the mainland districts of Geita, Sengerema, Kwimba, Misungwi, Magu, and the City of Mwanza. They normally operate once per month. Likewise we also have places where people sell their mixed products like manufactured goods and agricultural products. These market areas traditionally known as Gulilos operate once a week and are scattered all over the region.

Mwanza City by the support of JICA (Japanese International Cooperation Agency) is constructing a very modern fish market with efficient landing and trading facilities to boost up Mwanza fish business within and outside Tanzania to countries like Kenya, Democratic Republic of Congo, Rwanda and Burundi.

Either the region in its long- term plan has already identified an area for the location of the Export Processing Zone (EPZ), which will cater for all export products produced in the region. This will enhance the investors and other business people to reach their goal efficiently and effectively.
