After independence the government of Tanzania thought it is important to preserve cultural heritage found in Tanzania. In 1964 it established the Antiquities Department to research, preserve and conserve history, palaeontology, archiology and objects of national interest. The cultural heritage of Tanzania can broadly be divided into  tangible and intangible  cultural heritage. This section informs you of the two heritages the government preserve.
