Section 4 and section 9 of the Tanzania Food, Drugs and Cosmetics (Importation and Exportation) Regulations of 2006 requires the Authority to issue food export permit (health certificate) for food exporters respectively. In order to export food in Tanzania the applicant is required to obtain the Guidelines for Importation and Exportation of Food and the Tanzania Food, Drugs and Cosmetics (Fees and Charges) Regulations, 2011 from TFDA website (www.tfda.go.tz), read it through and then follow the procedures
Requirements
The food to be exported must have been registered and it must have been manufactured from registered food premises. For non registrable products the food consignment has been inspected and found in compliance with specifications described by the Authority.
Inspection and sampling of the consignment to be exported shall be done by an inspector prior issuing of health certificate on which the samples shall be analyzed under exporters cost.
The food does not contravene any provision of TFDC Act, (CAP. 219), or importation and exportation of food regulations.
Consignment previously imported as donations or for training/research or for individual/personal use shall not be re-exported
Procedures
Acquire Identification Number by filling Customers Registration Form that is available through the link or at TFDA Headquarters, Zone Offices based in Mwanza,Mbeya, Arusha, Dodoma, Dar es salaam, Mtwara and Tabora or via TFDA website.The identification number will be required when applying for permits online through TFDA Import and Export Portal
After obtaining Identification number, access TFDA Portal to apply for import or export permits
If you are a local applicant, pay the prescribed fee (Fees and Charge) by depositing into TFDA Account No. 6503900110 at National Microfinance Bank limited.
If you are an International applicant pay the prescribed fee (Fees and Charges) by bank transfer to TFDA Account No. 100380013 USD, Citibank, Tanzania Ltd. Dar es Salaam- Head office Peugeot House, 36 Upanga Road, P. O Box 71625, Dar es Salaam Tanzania Swift Code: CITITZ.
Scan and attach Profoma Invoice and Certificate of Analysis for the batch to be exported and a bank pay slip for the processing fee to TFDA Portal
Export /Import permits for registered products (if the application is completed and there is no rejection/querry), will be issued within 2 working days, or 15 working days for non registered food products.

If the application is not successful the applicant will be notified via applicable contacts.
