Broadcasting is the distribution of audio and video content to a dispersed audience via any audio or visual mass communications medium, but usually using electromagnetic radiation (radio waves). Therefore, Broadcast License is a type of spectrum license granting the licensee permission to use a portion of the Radio/TV frequency spectrum in a given geographical area for broadcasting purposes.
Requirements and conditions:
A company should have at least 51% of share-holding owned by a citizen.
No person shall transmit, receive or operate without Broadcasting Service License.
The Commission shall check the benefits of one holder above another.
Procedures:
Apply to the Commission.
Attach proposals, policy, nature and program schedule (Daily Timetable)
Submit the application to the Commission.
Pay the prescribed fee to the Commission (Nonrefundable).
Network plan and the training program involving local staff.
Evidence of financial capacity to conduct a broadcasting service.
Provide Information as the Commission may deem necessary.
The Commission shall publish a notice in the Gazette/newspaper in Tanzania in respect for the issue of license.
Within 14 days of publication of a notice any person will be allowed to oppose the grant of license.
Notice of the decision will be published in the Gazette and in any newspaper.
When the Commission decides to grant an application for a license it will attach conditions to the license.
